Professor Iichiro Uesugi was awarded the 2022 Awards for Studies on Small Business from Shoko Research Institute for his book titled "Economics of SME Financing: Role of Financial Institutions and Role of the Government".

Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (S) "Service Sector Productivity in Japan: Determinants and Policies (SSPJ)" (FY 2016-2020, Principal Investigator: Professor Kyoji Fukao) received the (A) rating in the term-of-end evaluation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.  The rating (A) means that the results were in line with initial expectations.  

Professor Iichiro Uesugi's book, "Economics of SME Financing: Role of Financial Institutions and Role of the Government", was selected as the second-best economic book of the year in Diamond Weekly.

Professor Takashi Kurosaki was awarded the 2022 JER Best Article Award for The Japanese Economic Review.

Professor Iichiro Uesugi was awarded the 29th Zengin Foundation Award (The Zengin Foundation for Studies on Economics and Finance).

The Joint Usage and Research Center Programs at the Institute of Economic Research received the highest (S) rating in the term-of-end evaluation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology following the mid-term evaluation in 2008. In addition, the Institute was newly accredited for the period from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2028.

The Economics, Finance and Business (EFaB) section of the International Society of Bayesian Analysis (ISBA) will organize "Webinar of Bayesian Econometrics 2021" on November 26-27, 2021. Please see the link for details such as the program and registration.

Associate Professor Kensuke Teshima received "Premio Citibanamex de Economia" for his research titled "The Violent Consequences of Trade-Induced Worker Displacement In Mexico" (joint with Melissa Dell and Benjamin Feigenberg).

Professor Kyoji Fukao won the Economic History Association Larry Neal Prize 2019 by the article "Japan and the Great Divergence, 730-1874" (co-authored by Jean-Pascal Bassino, Stephen N. Broadberry, Bishnupriya Gupta, and Masanori Takashima). 

HSI2019-5th Hitotsubashi Summer Institute will be held from 29 July to 4 August 2019 at Hitotsubashi University.

Russian Research Center celebrates the 10th anniversary. In commemoration of this, the center is going to hold Hitotsubashi University Policy Forum “Putin's Russia under the Economic Sanctions” on January 19th, 2018.

The results of the interim evaluation of Global COE Programs have been released by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Our Program was given the evaluation rank of “A.” This is the best rank, meaning that “by continuing the current effort, it should be possible to achieve the project’s original objectives.” The Global COE Hi-Stat Program was also chosen as one of the two “outstanding“ research units among 14 units in the social sciences.
