カルフォルニア大学バークレー校経済学および公共政策学教授
（Professor of Economics and Public Policy, UC Berkeley）。現在ニューヨーク大学法科学院客員教授、アメリカ法と経済学会理事。専門は理論経済学、公共政策、法と経済学。過去にハーバード大学、ソルボンヌ大学、ストックホルム大学、モスクワ大学、スタンフォード大学、エール大学、南カルフォルニア大学などで教鞭または研究フェロー、連邦巡回区控訴裁判所研究員（scholar in residence, USCAFC）などを歴任。数々の学術論論文の他に著書に Innovation and Incentives （MIT Press、2004年、日本語訳　「イノベーションとインセンティブ」日本評論社2008年）。

カルファルニア大学ゴールドマン公共政策校情報と安全プロジェクト・ディレクター(Director, Goldman School Information and Homeland Security Project)。1996年までカルファルニア州およびアリゾナ州で知財弁護士として活躍、IBM, Apple, Symatec,Aerojet General Corporation,　及びアメリカ原住民ナバホ王国（Navajo Nation）などの弁護をする。最近は生命科学の知財の研究に従事、American Academy of SciencesやIncytesとの共同プロジェクトに参加し、スタンフォード大学、The Human Genome Organization,National Institute of Health (NIH),World Health Organization (WHO) などで招待講演してきた。著書に”Open Source Software: The New Intellectual Property Paradigm," (T. Hendershott 編, Handbook on Information Systems (Elsevier: 2006)の他Economica,Nature, Science, WHOBulletinなど掲載論文がある。

オーストラリア国立大学Regulatory Instiutions Netowork ARC Fellow。 もともと生命化学・分子生物学者であるが、1997年から弁護士としてオーストラリア政府顧問弁護士（Australian Commonwealth Government’s General Counsel）の意見書作成に従事。最近は生命科学のオープン・ソースの研究の第1人者として活躍している。 著書に”Biobazaar – the Open Source Revolution and Biotechnology （Harvard University Press, 2008）がある。
