研究歴：
鈴村の経済学に関する理論的研究は、厚生経済学と社会選択理論のいくつかの側面で推進されてきた。1970年代を通じて社会選択に関する純粋理論の研究に集中していたが、その当時の論文を主著Rational
Choice, Collective Decisions and Social Welfare, Cambridge University Press, 1983にとりまとめて出版した後は、意識的に研究分野の拡張に努め理論的産業組織論への貢献を重ねるようになった。この分野の研究は第２の主著Competition,
Commitment and Welfare, Oxford
University Press, 1995に結実した。この著書の執筆と並行して、私の関心は次第に従来の厚生経済学と社会選択理論の限界を見据え、規範的経済学の枠組みの拡張に向かうようになった。すなわち社会選択の理論における権利論の研究をきっかけにして、選択の帰結のみに注目する伝統的な考え方を越え、選択の機会集合や選択手続きなどにも内在的な価値を認めるアプローチの重要性に気付いた。そして新たなゲーム形式の権利論の開発や、帰結主義と非帰結主義の公理主義的な特徴付けなどに研究対象が拡大していったのである。このような径路を辿った私の研究には、核となる６つの分野がある。

これらの理論的研究に加えて、私には日本の経済政策、特に日本の産業政策と競争政策の研究、並びに経済学説の歴史的生成に関する研究も興味深い分野であって、それぞれに以下の代表的研究がある。
