“Seaching for Main Causes of Decreasing Competitiveness of Japanese Semiconductor Industry--Social Network Analysis--”
Hiroyuki Chuma (Institute of Innovation Research, Hitotsubashi University)

In the science-based industries represented by semiconductors and biotechnologies, the decreasing competitiveness of leading Japanese companies has being prominent. One of the main causes could be ascribed to their difficulty to keeping up with the accelerated clock-speed of technological complexity and market globalization. Based on this awareness, the main purpose of this paper is to visualize at a glance the situation of Japanese semiconductor industry during the past few decades by considering the cutting-edge technology called High-k/Metal gate. The original contribution is the proposed method, based on a few years of field research, for visualizing the discovered results by social network analyses.
