“Industrialization, Foreign Direct Investment and Firms' Fund Mobilization in Southeast Asia”
Fumiharu Mieno (Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University)

The paper examines the features of firms' fund mobilization in the process of Southeast Asian industrialization, using firm level data for Thailand and Malaysia. We found that while the function of commercial bank intermediation for foreign firms is substantially limited, the foreign firms finance their investment through their own financial networks. On the other hand, capital markets do not play an important role in their fund mobilization.
