About the Hi-Stat Social Science Database Network

The Institute of Economic Research (IER) at Hitotsubashi University, as one of the joint usage/research centers certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, has been providing overseas and Japanese researchers with access to social sciences-related statistical information. As part of the data access services, the Hi-Stat Social Science Database Network presents databases created and collected by the IER’s faculty and staff. Databases include those compiled by the Global COE Program, “Research Unit for Statistical and Empirical Analysis in Social Sciences” (G-COE Hi-Stat) and other projects, such as the Asian Historical Statistics Database, micro-data from the Farm Household Survey, and the Japan Industrial Productivity Database. In addition, this website includes the databases purchased by the IER as well as government survey microdata for which the micro analysis section of the IER supports secondary use.

We aim to expand the collection of databases by including not only those compiled by the IER but also by the university as a whole as well as external databases from Japan and abroad in order to create an extensive data archive in the social sciences.
