“How Important is Examiner Citation? -On the Usefulness of Examiner Citation as An Indicator of Patent Value-”
Setsuo Yamada (School of Economics, Senshu University)

This paper investigates the importance of examiner citation of patent as an indicator of patent value in Japan. I estimate the probability of patent renewals by using the Ordered Probit method. Estimation results suggest that examiner citations are significantly related to the probability of patent renewals. This means that examiner citations are important as a measure of innovation quality.
